Kari Farley, RVT, CERP
Clarity
During Clarity’s convalescence, Kari expanded her knowledge of equine vet medicine and came to understand what high-quality care really was. Deciding that she did not want to become a veterinarian, she rather wanted to be involved in the ongoing care of injured and sick horses, coming to also incorporate an understanding of wellness and fitness. Several years in a small animal emergency hospital added experience and skill in general veterinary science and practice and provided the additional qualifications for Kari’s RVT (registered veterinary technician) license, which was awarded in 2010 by CA veterinary medical board.
Kari currently lives in Petaluma, CA with her 2 horses, Sylvie and Cash, a miniature horse she took in as a yearling to rehabilitate 15 years ago, Pearl, her rescue dog, Raisin and Kiki the cat. Kari grew up in Northern California and has loved horses since childhood. She grew up riding western disciplines and says that she was horseback any chance she got. She moved to Sonoma County to attend SSU, where she was awarded a degree in Environmental Studies. In her senior year, she became the owner of Clarity, an off-track thoroughbred mare. She started learning the art of Classical Dressage and also spent time trail riding. Clarity suffered a bad case of colic in 2005 and needed surgery, which, while likely saving her life, produced severe life-threatening complications. Kari immediately moved her to a friend’s property, quit her job and took care of her around the clock, staying in a trailer parked next to Clarity’s stall. With direction and assistance from Kari’s veterinarian, and after many months of nursing, Clarity was pronounced healthy and Kari’s veterinarian offered her a job! Her focus became equine health, wellness, and rehabilitation.
Kari managed the equine rehabilitation center at Circle Oak Ranch from 2010 until 2022, as it grew from a stand-alone facility to part of the Circle Oak Equine Sports Medicine complex. Kari also supervised a full-care retirement program and assisted in the veterinary clinic as well as in the field. She obtained her equine rehabilitation certification (CERP) from the University of Tennessee in 2015. In her time at Circle Oak, Kari worked with all disciplines and most breeds. Kari says:
During these years, I had the pleasure of working with many talented equine vets, both local and out of our area. I also met great trainers, clients and horses. In 2022, I decided to offer my knowledge, passion, experience and skills to a broader audience. I started EquiTherapeutics so I can help more people help their horses maintain, regain and achieve optimal health.
